A couple of weeks ago I was browsing Pinterest and came across a tutorial on how to make chocolate covered spoons. The spoons are perfect to dip into coffee or hot chocolate and I thought they could make great Valentines day gifts.
I’m not one to partake in crafts too often mainly because I’m impatient and not the most creative. However, I thought this one seemed both manageable and delicious.
24 plastic or wooden spoons (I used wooden)
1 bag of white chocolate chips
1 bag of milk chocolate chip
In a microwave safe bowl, melt chocolate for 1 minute on high in the microwave. Take out and stir and continue to microwave in intervals of 20 seconds until melted. Slowly dip spoon into melted chocolate and cover. You may want to use another spoon/knife to help coat the edges. Lay on wax paper and garnish with sprinkles, marshmallows. You can also drizzle milk chocolate on a spoon dipped in white or vice versa to get the swirl effect.
For a valentines day gift: wrap each spoon individually in cellophane or with a candy wrapper. Tie a pink ribbon around it to make it festive. Finally write cute messages such as “Be mine” and I love you. Give it to your best friend or secret crush.
So the instructions above are great and all, but below is what REALLY happened when I tried making them:
The Akansha way:
1. Run back and forth from the microwave to keep both white chocolate and milk chocolate melted. Note to self: try melting both at once.
2. Let greed takeover and slather chunks of a banana in warm, gooey chocolate – forget initial project all together.
3. Get back to project, accidentally knock over half the bottle of sprinkles.
4. Finally finish decorating the spoons while you have a tummy ache from eating too much chocolate. Mission accomplished.
