There are days I don’t feel like getting out of bed for a jog or swim.
Days I’d rather eat and drink with my friends than go to the gym.
Or, sometimes I’d rather watch TV than turn on some blogilates to stay slim.
Okay enough with this rhyming.
On a more serious note, I have these moments and think “why am I working so hard when everyone else is having fun?” My first reaction to this sorry excuse is “stop feeling sorry for yourself and stop comparing yourself to others.” In the end, this is my own life and I have 100% control on the way I want to live it. So I take my decision, stick with it and try to be happy about it.
But even that doesn’t work at times. So to get over these humps I made a list of reasons why I work out.
1.Physical: probably the most vain and obvious reason but nevertheless important. Who doesn’t like seeing slow and steady changes in their body? Or noticing that I’m able to run 3 miles faster and stronger.
2. Long-term health: If the physical aspect was the only thing that kept me going, I probably would have stopped working out a while ago. Lean muscle and a healthy heart can only be good in the future!
3.Stress-reliever: Working out can be a huge stress reliever for me. I tend to think a lot all the time and sometimes it can be overwhelming. Working out gives me the opportunity to block out all these thoughts for about an hour and just focus on myself.
4. Strength: I’m not talking about only physical strength but mental strength as well. Working out has taught me discipline and to push myself harder when I think my body can take no more. Most of the time (as I’m sure many of you have noticed for yourselves too) my mind gives up before my body. I like the strength and mental perseverance working out has given me.
5. Fun: Last but not least I think working out can be fun! I love varying my workouts between barre classes, swimming, jogging, pilates, weights..you name it! It’s a great way to release endorphins and try something new.
On this note..I’m ready for some HIIT workouts on the treadmill and then killing my abs!
