It’s always nice to switch up your exercise routine so recently I attended a few Pure Barre classes in Los Gatos. I realized many of my friends had never heard of it (to my surprise!) so I thought I’d introduce you all to this new exercise technique.
Pure Barre classes are a combination of pilate-like moves and ballet poses that you pulse and hold until your muscles can no longer take it. You get to workout to fast-paced pop/electro music in a room surrounded by mirrors and ballet barres while an instructor drills you with some intense fat-burning moves. Sounds lovely doesn’t it?
Well I will say the music did keep me going because I definitely need it to push myself! The classes can be a bit challenging and the technique takes a little getting used to. It would be nice if the instructors would elaborate more on how to perform the moves (took me a while to figure out what “seat work” and “back dancing” really meant) before jumping right into it. But after the first couple classes, Pure Barre started to grow on me once as I got the hang of the routine.
From this workout you should be able to attain a lean toned body with using only your body weight and a few props. Best part about the Pure Barre technique is even though you engage in isometric movements that tone your thighs, glutes, and arms, all the work is concentrated in your core so you get a great ab workout too!
Unfortunately there aren’t any Pure Barre classes in Berkeley, but there are a few other barre studios in Berkeley that I might have to check out.
