Last Sunday, the tea geeks came out and gathered at the Ferry Building for the second annual San Francisco International Tea Festival.
And I had the privilege of being a little helper for SKYtea by serving chai! SkyTea, founded by Jeni Quigg, is a small business located in Oakland that sources some of the finest teas. I’m obsessed with is her masala chai tea (which placed 4th at the North American Tea Championship): a nice blend of high-quality black tea and a blend of spices that include cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, pepper, and nutmeg. Jeni travels to India every year and treks the country on a motorbike picking out the best tea there is. And oh yes, sometimes she has the occasional monkey taking over her bike.
There festival were some other booths including ones from Red Circle Tea and Chado Tea, tea tasting sessions, and talks lead by tea gurus such as Roy Fong and James Norwood Pratt.
Speaking of JNP, I had the pleasure to chat with him for a few minutes. He is such an interesting character and you will know what I mean after watching this video:
Great tea, great people, and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
P.S. Make sure you check out SKYTea’s Facebook page here!
