I’ve been to a handful of Indian weddings back in the states, but last month was my first time attending a wedding in India. It was my cousin’s wedding in Calcutta and it combined traditions both from Bengal and North India – I had never seen anything like it!
A wedding in India is different than one back at home: bigger in some ways, smaller in others. The wedding day itself is grand but the events leading up to it, such as the mehndi, can be casual and intimate.
I wasn’t able to use my hands so my mom was feeding me.
Again, can’t use hands. Decided to do boat pose.
My grandma and I. Isn’t she so cute??
The saat phere, the last part of the wedding, took place the morning after the big event.
It had been over six years since I visited India so it was exciting seeing family after so long. I feel fortunate to have a large loving family (my mom has five siblings) and adorable grandparents. I had so much fun catching-up with everyone while practicing my hindi and creating new memories.
See you again soon, India.
